I have pretty much the same thoughts about "Anora." Out of morbid curiosity, I started watching it a couple weeks ago, and I'm having to watch it in 5 to 20 minute intervals because it gets plain annoying after a while. After a week break from it, I just watched another 10 to 15 boring minutes of it, and it got annoying again.

The whole middle of the movie is just a group of people yelling at each other over and over again in different languages, talking over each other, and finding every way possible to work in the F-word into every sentence. It feels like the struggle in the living room lasts 10 to 20 minutes, and the search for Vanya feels like it drags for another 20 minutes or more. I don't know what's harder to believe, that the movie won Best Picture overall or that it won specifically for Screenplay and Editing.

If I scrape the bottom of the barrel for redeeming qualities, I like the song played at the beginning of the movie and one time in the middle, there are a few well done camera shots, I suppose Mikey Madison's performance is well done -- for what it is -- despite bad material to work with, there's one support character that is oddly and partially likable in an unexpected way, and I *might* be just *morbidly* curious enough to finish watching the last 30 minutes because I'm still trying to figure out what people see in this movie (and whatever that is, maybe it comes in the last half hour).

I know I'm in the minority on this. This got high ratings from both critics and movie-goers at Rotten Tomatoes, and it won five Oscars. So, most people like -- love (???) -- this movie. That's fine...I guess. If they do, they do. I just don't get it. Not only would I have different standards for what should win Oscars, but I would prefer better standards for what actually makes a movie. But, we're all different, and my standards aren't other people's standards. Still...I just don't get it.
